2016 Recipients

Congratulations to the 2016 Bob O’Connor Foundation Community Service Scholarship Recipients!

  • Habiba Sekondo (Taylor Allderdice): Habiba is a somalian immigrant from Kenya who came to the states to escape war. She volunteers at White Hall Public Library and plans after-school activities for children. She as also a part of Arsenal Park Clean-up.
  • Melanie Long (Oakland Catholic): Melanie is a member of the National Honor Society and helps to tutor other students at school. She volunteers at Bethlehem Haven Women’s Shelter and also Pittsburgh Food Bank. She has helped with the Power of Packing Program. She was part of a mission trip to Washington DC during Holy Week with the Boys and Girls Club.
  •  Jordyn Gilliard (Pittsburgh Obama Academy): Jordyn volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House and at local food banks, helping pack and distribute food. She has been part of Lott Carey Foreign Missions. Operation in as much community blitz around 9/11. Volunteers at the men’s shelter.
  •  Brittany Puzauski (Our Lady of Sacred Heart): Brittany has participated in Vacation Bible School. She has run in the Lupus Foundation’s Lupus Loop and American Heart Association’s Heart Walk. She is part of the National Honor Society at school and tutors students with Dyslexia. She has been a part of Adopt-a-Highway clean ups. She volunteers at the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank and the McGuire Home. She has also participated in Coups for Troops.

2015 Recipients

Congratulations to the 2015 Bob O’Connor Foundation Community Service Scholarship Recipients!

  • Jonathan Mulick from Bishop Canevin High School. Jonathan has been involved in a multitude of community and scholarship projects. He has volunteered at the Veterans National Wheelchair Games and attended an Appalachian mission trip plus much more. Jonathan doesn’t just participate he organizes, leads, fundraises, and motivates. He was elected president of the National Honor Society.

  • Savanna Edmunds from Oakland Catholic High School. Savanna volunteers with the Campus Ministry team for an after school grade school program, volunteers for the local Bethlehem Women’s Shelter, and at the Hill Dance Academy Theater. She is also on the softball and step team. Savanna recently participated in two enriching programs: People to People Student Ambassador program to Costa Rica and the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law and CSI in Washington DC.
     
  • Omolara Asunbo from Oakland Catholic High Scool. Omolara is a member of the school’s student council, cancer awareness organization, science and computer club. She volunteers regularly at the Grandview Church of God, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, The Squirrel Hill Center, and The Boys and Girls Club. Omolara has been on the highest-honor roll all 4 years in high school and won The Crossroads Staff Award which is given to one high-achieving, well-rounded senior.
